ACCC Grounds Air Canada, Air NZ Profit-Sharing Pact

Law360 (January 27, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has blocked a bid by Air Canada and Air New Zealand to jointly promote and sell tickets on the Vancouver-to-Down Under flight route, saying the harm to competition outweighed the benefits of the pact.

The consumer watchdog announced Tuesday it had denied the airlines' authorization request to implement their five-year cooperation agreement. The regulator had signaled its intent two months ago, when it released a draft determination to reject the proposal.
