EC To Ban Mold Killer Found In Chinese Items

Law360, New York (January 29, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Members of the European Commission voted Thursday to place an emergency ban on a mold-killing chemical found in a host of Chinese-made leather goods, including sofas and shoes, amid fears that the chemical can cause severe allergic reactions.

The commission voted Thursday in favor of an emergency draft decision that would ensure that products containing biocide dimethyl fumarate are not placed on the market in the European Union, the EU said.
