Greenpeace Challenges Monsanto Wheat Patent

Law360, New York (January 28, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Environmental pressure group Greenpeace has joined forces with two Indian organizations to challenge the European patent rights given to Monsanto on Indian landrace of wheat, Nap Hal, Indian daily Financial Express reported Wednesday.

Greenpeace, the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology (RFSTE) and Bharat Krishak Samaj (BKS) on Tuesday filed a petition at the European Patent Office (EPO), Munich, to challenge the patent (EP 445929), granted on May 21, 2003.
