Judge Suspends Settlement With Orange Juice Cos.

Law360, New York (August 11, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After receiving a request from the Brazilian Citrus Growers Association, a judge has temporarily suspended a deal between the antitrust arm of Brazil’s Justice Ministry and five large orange juice exporters.

The department’s antitrust division had asked the companies to pay $45.87 million in fines and face regular audits to settle accusations that the companies had formed a cartel.

The settlement had come in response to allegations that citrus exporters Citrosuco, Coimbra, Cutrale, Citrovita and Montecitrus fixed the prices paid to orange growers.
