US Sues Mine For Not Paying Fatal Explosion Fines

Law360, New York (February 3, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Labor has sued an eastern Kentucky coal mine for failing to pay civil penalties for safety violations that led to a 2006 explosion that killed five miners.

The DOL's Mine Safety and Health Administration is seeking $505,012 from Kentucky Darby LLC in unpaid fines, interest and administrative fees in a lawsuit filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.
