Blockchain Dominates FCA's First Regulatory Sandbox Approvals

Law360, London (November 7, 2016, 6:00 PM GMT) -- Nine blockchain firms are among 18 names to be nurtured to market in a groundbreaking regulatory project by the U.K.’s financial watchdog, the Financial Conduct Authority revealed Monday.

Traditional finance giants including HSBC Holdings PLC and Lloyds Banking Group PLC also form part of the cohort, which made it through the first stage of the FCA’s "regulatory sandbox" pilot.

The sandbox is a world-first safe-space where the regulator helps and guides companies test products and services without punishment or heavy oversight should the offering skirt rules.
