DOI To Withdraw 'Rushed' Oil, Gas Leases: Salazar

Law360, New York (February 4, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior will withdraw controversial oil and gas leases for 77 parcels of Utah land and return $6 million already paid for the leases, in the Obama administration's latest move to re-examine Bush-era policies.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar told reporters on Wednesday that the DOI would withdraw the Dec. 19 leases of U.S. public land near Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Dinosaur National Monument and Nine Mile Canyon, which have been contested in federal court.
