Mars Sues Smucker Over Pet Treat Pill Pocket Trademark

By Melissa Daniels (November 21, 2016, 8:17 PM EST) -- Mars Inc. sued the J.M Smucker Co. and its pet food arm in Virginia federal court on Monday alleging their Pill Pouches pet treat product infringes its trademark for Pill Pockets, saying the names for the medication-disguising pet treats are confusingly similar.

Mars and its pet line say Smucker's newly released Pill Pouches willfully infringe its trademarks for its pre-existing Pill Pockets, a flavorful pet treat designed to hide a medication, with a "highly similar and virtually identical" mark.
