Sutherland, Eversheds Cling To Financial Autonomy In Merger

By Andrew Strickler (November 30, 2016, 3:08 PM EST) -- Getting partners behind a tie-up between Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP and the U.K.'s Eversheds — a relatively rare cross-Atlantic merger — will be simplified by a structure that will keep the branches largely financially independent, experts said.

On Tuesday, leaders of the two firms said that partners had been presented with a proposed deal to create a new firm of some 2,300 lawyers on five continents. In a likely nod to a hoped-for, cross-Atlantic power share, the new entity is to be known globally as Eversheds Sutherland.
