Carbomedics Pays $2.5 M To Settle Edwards Patent Suit

Law360, New York (January 30, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Edwards Lifesciences Corp. settled a lawsuit against rival Carbomedics, Inc. over medical technologies for heart valve repair and replacement.

The patent infringement litigation, filed by Edwards in the U.S. District Court in Delaware on June 6, 2002 and September 17, 2003, has been dismissed.

Under terms of the settlement, Edwards will receive a one-time cash payment of $2.5 million from Carbomedics, a unit of Italian cardiovascular equipment company Sorin SpA, Edwards said.
