Yahoo! Taiwan Probed For Abuse Of Monopoly Power

Law360, New York (August 15, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Responding to concerns over its ability to handle tough cases, Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission has said that it will conduct a thorough probe into Yahoo! Taiwan’s potential abuse of its monopoly position in the country’s online auction market.

The FTC launched an investigation into Yahoo! after Yahoo-Kimo, Taiwan’s largest online auctioneer, announced on July 24 that it would start charging a 3% transaction fee, as well as a $3 NTD listing fee per item, on most auction items, beginning Aug. 10.
