Japan Patent Office To Staff Up To Speed Up Processing

Law360 (February 1, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Japan’s Patent Office is planning to hire 500 workers to speed up application processing times, the Asahi Shimbun reported Monday.

The office plans to add the staff over five years beginning in fiscal 2004 to speed up the average patent-granting period from two and a half years to several months within the next decade, the newspaper said, citing unnamed sources.
