Spain Recalls Gardasil Batch After Illnesses

Law360, New York (February 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Spanish government has recalled a batch of Gardasil vaccines after two girls became critically ill, seven months after a U.S. probe into the safety of the Merck & Co. shot designed to protect against the virus that causes cervical cancer.

On Thursday, Spain's health ministry yanked back tens of thousands of doses of the medication, following the mysterious hospitalizations of the two girls shortly after receiving the vaccine.
