ABA Approves Screening Rule For Lateral Moves

Law360, New York (February 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Lawyers who move laterally from one private firm to another must now be screened so that conflicts of interest that apply to moving lawyers are not imputed to other lawyers at the new firm, according to a new resolution by the American Bar Association.

The measure, adopted Monday at the ABA’s 2009 midyear meeting in Boston, was one of dozens of resolutions to be approved by the association’s 555-member House of Delegates.
