RIM, Top Brass Settle SEC Backdating Case

Law360, New York (February 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. and four top executives have struck settlement deals to quell the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's allegations that they backdated stock options between 1998 and 2006.

The SEC filed a complaint against RIM, Co-Chief Executive Officers Jim Balsillie and Mihal Lazaridis — the latter of whom is also RIM's president and founder — former Chief Financial Officer Dennis Kavelman and former Vice President of Finance Angelo Loberto in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday....
