Fla. Hearing Probes Bias In Credit-Based Rates

Law360, New York (February 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation has subpoenaed five major insurance companies to testify in a public hearing investigating how consumers' credit scores and credit history affect underwriting rates.

FOIR Commissioner Kevin McCarty issued subpoenas on Tuesday to five of Florida’s largest insurers — Allstate Insurance Co., Geico, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., Progressive Insurance Co. and State Farm — to testify in a hearing that began at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in the state capital of Tallahassee.
