NM Gov. Aims To Ease Oil Field Waste Regulations

Law360, New York (February 19, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Responding to concerns from the oil and gas industry, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has proposed changes to allow industry to “better absorb the costs” of a new rule to reduce contamination from oil field waste pits.

On Wednesday, Richardson announced the proposed changes to the state's “Pit Rule,” which was enacted on June 16, 2008, to protect groundwater and regulate potential environmental contamination from oil field waste pits.
