Conductors Union Suit V. CSX Sent To Arbitration

Law360, New York (February 24, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal judge has ordered CSX Transportation Inc. and a union representing its conductors to enter arbitration in a dispute over how temporary vacancies are filled when freight train conductors are unavailable to carry out their regular assignments.

Judge John H. Moore II of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida ruled Monday that under the Railway Labor Act, the suit brought by the United Transportation Union is a “minor dispute,” which is defined as one that involves the interpretation of contract provisions....
