Ala. Jury Hits Sandoz For $78M In Medicaid Fraud Suit

Law360 (February 24, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A jury in Alabama has ruled that generic-drug maker Sandoz Inc. should be on the hook for $78.4 million for artificially boosting prescription drug prices that caused the state's Medicaid program to make excess payments for medications for more than a decade.

Jurors in the Montgomery County Circuit Court reached a verdict Tuesday that directed the Novartis AG unit to shell out $28.4 million in compensatory damages and an additional $50 million in punitive damages.
