Hospitals To Pay $151M For Excess Medicaid Payments

Law360 (August 21, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- North Carolina will soon begin forking over $151 million to repay the federal government for excess Medicaid payments collected by state hospitals over the last six years.

The settlement, reached by the state’s U.S. Attorneys and the U.S. Department of Health, stipulates that the 51 North Carolina hospitals that benefited from the excess payments pay $91.5 million, and the state pay the balance.

The state will make an initial payment of $106.5 million, which includes the entire payment from the hospitals, by the end of September....
