Salazar Slashes Oil Shale Leasing Plans

Law360, New York (February 26, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said Wednesday he would withdraw the Bush administration's proposal to expand leases for projects that could have led to oil shale development on 1.9 million acres in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

Salazar said Wednesday he was withdrawing a Jan. 14 solicitation to develop the federal land and that the department would instead offer a second round of research, development and demonstration leases for oil shale in Colorado and Utah.
