McCain Touts Drug Imports To Lower US Costs

Law360 (March 4, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Sen. John McCain has introduced legislation aimed at lowering the cost of prescription drugs in the United States by allowing for the importation of less expensive medications from abroad, which falls in line with initiatives laid out in President Obama’s budget.

The Arizona Republican and former presidential candidate, along with a bipartisan group of senators, unveiled the Pharmaceutical Market Access and Drug Safety Act on Wednesday and said it would ultimately force the pharmaceutical industry to reduce U.S. drug prices.
