Verdict For Chevron Stands Over Nigerian Oil Standoff

Law360, New York (March 5, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal judge on Wednesday upheld a jury verdict against a group of Nigerians who sued Chevron Corp. in connection with deadly violence in 1998 aboard an oil barge that was occupied by protesters resisting the company's hiring and environmental practices.

Judge Susan Illston, who presided over the November trial, denied as a matter law the plaintiffs' motion for a new trial in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, adding that oral arguments on the motion were not necessary.
