Fed. Circ. Ruling Could Increase Mentor’s $36M Patent Win
Law360, New York (March 16, 2017, 8:52 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Thursday affirmed a $36 million verdict against Synopsys Inc. in a patent suit over computer emulator technology by rival Mentor Graphics Corp., while also holding that a judge wrongly barred Mentor from asserting other patents and alleging willful infringement.
The appeals court’s complex, 42-page ruling grants Mentor a new trial to argue that Synopsys willfully infringed, which could triple the damages award, and allows Mentor to allege infringement of three more patents in addition to the one at issue in the first trial.
