Databases Protected By Copyright, Korea Court Rules

Law360, New York (February 5, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- A South Korea court has ruled that the contents of a database is protected by copyright, resolving a long-standing legal controversy.

A man who copied a job search database from a personal Web site and pasted it into his home page must pay 38.4 million won in compensation to the site's owner, the Seoul District Court ordered.
