Feds Drop Navigable Waterway Claim In La. Oil Spat

Law360, New York (March 6, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a dispute involving oil exploration firms KCS Resources Inc., Cohort Energy Co. and others over confusion about whether the state of Louisiana or the federal government has claim to a site, U.S. authorities have abandoned an attempt to assert rights to the property — once covered by water — by declaring it was a “navigable stream or lake” almost two centuries ago.
