AstraZeneca Sues Andrx Over Tropol-XL Patent

Law360, New York (February 5, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- AstraZeneca has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware against Andrx for patent infringement over the generic drug maker’s plans to make a generic version of hypertension drug Troprol-XL.

The U.K.-Swedish drug maker said it filed the suit after Andrx submitted a Paragraph IV Certification letter letter indicating its intention to manufacture and sell metoprolol succinate in the 50 mg dose form in the U.S.
