Iowa Senate OKs Rollback Of Local Minimum Wage Increases

Law360, New York (March 28, 2017, 3:51 PM EDT) -- The Iowa Senate on Monday approved legislation that would freeze the state’s minimum wage at the federal rate of $7.25 per hour and retroactively invalidate any local laws mandating an hourly rate that exceeds the state standard.

By a party-line 29-21 vote, the GOP-led Iowa Senate passed House File 295, which would tie the statewide minimum wage to the current federal level and bar any city or county from enacting a local law providing a higher minimum wage than the proscribed state level. The bill passed the...
