Maytag Issues Massive Recall Of Faulty Fridges

Law360, New York (March 10, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Citing fire hazards, Maytag Corp. on Tuesday voluntarily recalled seven different brands of its refrigerators, encompassing 1.6 million appliances.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall, referring to an electrical failure in the relay, a part that activates the fridge's compressor. The defect can cause overheating and lead to a fire, according to the commission.
