Rudolph Awarded $7M In Semiconductor Patent Fight

Law360 (March 10, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After a Minnesota jury awarded Rudolph Technologies Inc. $6.8 million in damages in a patent suit against competitor Camtek Ltd. over an automated inspection system for detecting defects in semiconductor wafers, the company said it would seek an injunction.

The jury decided on Thursday that Israel-based Camtek's Falcon inspection system infringed the patent asserted by Rudolph and awarded $6,782,490 in lost profits damages.

The jury also rejected Camtek's invalidity defenses, but found that the plaintiffs hadn't shown by clear and convincing evidence that Camtek willfully infringed...
