Canada Revamps Competition Act

Law360 (March 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Canada's Budget Implementation Act has come into effect, restructuring the country's merger review policies to mirror U.S. practices, altering its conspiracy laws and increasing penalties for companies that abuse dominant market positions.

Although the Budget Implementation Act was expedited through the parliamentary process and received royal assent on March 12, Canada's Competition Bureau has not yet issued guidelines on how the amendments to the Competition Act will be implemented.
