Litigation Funders Try Speed Dating To Drum Up Business

By Andrew Strickler (April 28, 2017, 7:01 PM EDT) -- A few dozen litigation funders, would-be investors and lawyers scoped each other out at a hip Manhattan co-working space Friday, looking to make friends — and deals — to put private investment behind legal claims.

Billed as an "intense networking and deal-making" opportunity for firms, in-house counsel and legal-focused funders, the all-day event drew representatives from a handful of major firms, including Clifford Chance LLP and Reed Smith LLP. 

But a majority of the roughly 50 attendees came from the investor side, and smaller firms looking for new friends in what was for some a still-new business of third-party legal financing....
