Asbestos Claims Fuel Rise In US Caseload: Report

Law360, New York (March 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A surge in asbestos cases drove a significant year-over-year rise in new federal personal injury and product liability litigation, according to statistics compiled by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.

Overall, the national pending civil caseload climbed 12 percent to 298,129, the report said, driven partially by increases in pending multidistrict litigation involving asbestos in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and hormone therapy drugs in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
