Security Experts Tracking Bitcoin To Unmask Cyberhackers

Law360, New York (May 15, 2017, 4:16 PM EDT) -- Enforcement officials and security experts in London said Monday they are tracking flows of bitcoin in connection with a massive global cyberhack that paralyzed Britain's health care network last week, putting more unwanted focus on the unregulated cryptocurrency that has struggled for legitimacy.

On Friday, cyberthieves attacked Britain’s health care network, demanding ransom amounts paid in the virtual currency in order to release files. The ransomware attack quickly spread, but despite crippling swaths of industry in 150 countries across the globe it emerged that only $60,000 had been paid from around 200,000 victims late Monday.
