EU Will Ask Bank Watchdog To Rethink Screen-Scraping Ban

Law360, London (May 19, 2017, 7:32 PM BST) -- The European Union’s executive arm said Friday it will ask the bloc’s banking regulator to rethink its ban on so-called screen-scraping under impending payments systems rules, in a move that will likely upset the region’s bankers.

Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commission’s vice president for financial services and capital markets, said he intends to ask the European Banking Authority to revise its decision to ban screen-scraping, which permits automated data-copying from websites, despite calls from a top bank lobby to uphold the ban.
