An analysis of data from the ABA, Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics by legal industry blog The Last Gen X American — a project of Minneapolis lawyer Matt Leichter — shows that Washington, D.C., and New York rank No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, both when it comes to lawyers per capita and "excess attorneys" per 10,000 residents.
