After Court Loss, Biotech Company Removes Enzyme

Law360, New York (August 28, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Danisco subsidiary Genencor International Inc. announced Friday that it was withdrawing Spezyme Ethyl—an alpha amylase enzyme used in ethanol production—from the market.

The decision came only a day after a federal judge ruled that Spezyme Ethyl infringed a patent owned by Genencor’s main rival, Danish biotech company Novozymes A/S.
