Nations Agree Warming Is Polar Bears' Biggest Threat

Law360, New York (March 23, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The five countries with polar bear populations have concluded that melting sea ice due to climate change constitutes the most important threat to the species' survival.

Officials from Canada, Greenland, Norway, Russia and the United States – who met for three days last week in Tromso, Norway – said in a statement that the long-term survival of polar bears depended upon the successful mitigation of climate change.
