Patriot Coal, Green Groups Settle CWA Suit

Law360, New York (March 24, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Patriot Coal Corp. has agreed to spend over $725,000 to settle two environmental groups' allegations of Clean Water Act violations at a pair of Patriot-owned mining complexes in Appalachia.

Judge Robert C. Chambers of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia signed an order on Thursday approving a consent decree between Patriot and environmental groups Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition Inc. and West Virginia Highlands Conservancy Inc., which sued the mining company in 2007.
