White Police Officers Lose Race Bias Case In 1st Circ.

Law360, New York (March 24, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has upheld a decision against a group of white police officers who accused the city of Springfield, Mass., of using improper determinations based on race during the hiring process.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit on Tuesday affirmed a lower court's summary judgment ruling for the city, agreeing with the district court that the plaintiffs failed to show a race-based causal connection and that the city properly complied with a consent decree.
