E.U. Delays Antitrust Review Of Westinghouse Sale

Law360, New York (August 30, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission delayed Wednesday reviewing possible antitrust issues with the sale of British nuclear technology company Westinghouse Electric Ltd. to Japanese engineering firm Toshiba Corp.

The E.U.’s Competition Commission had planned to either give the Westinghouse deal its blessing or launch a full-blown antitrust investigation by Sept. 5, but that date has now been pushed back to Sept. 19.

The delay gives Toshiba more time to keep the deal off the regulator’s radar by, for example, selling certain assets. The deal must also be cleared...
