Senate Bill Would Put Kibosh On Mountaintop Mining

Law360, New York (March 26, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In the wake of a high-profile appellate court decision that paved the way for restarting mountaintop coal mining operations in West Virginia, two U.S. senators have introduced legislation that would make the controversial technique illegal.

Sens. Benjamin L. Cardin, D-Md., and Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., proposed a bill Wednesday that would prohibit the dumping of mining waste into streams, effectively ending that method of coal mining.
