Baard Ditches Bid For DOE Loan Guarantee Program

Law360, New York (March 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Baard Energy LLC has dropped its application with the U.S. Department of Energy's Loan Guarantee Program for its Ohio River Clean Fuels Project, a proposed liquid coal refinery, saying lawsuits filed by environmental groups could delay funding for years.

In a statement released late last week, Baard Energy CEO John Baardson said the firm had recently learned that legal challenges to permits for the proposed facility launched by environmental groups would be part of the project's risk evaluation, and could affect its funding time line....
