Pioneer Defeats Orthopedic Giant In Patent Case

Law360 (August 31, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has affirmed a lower court ruling that the Quantum pedicle screw made by Pioneer Surgical Technology does not infringe rival orthopedic company Stryker Corp.’s patent.

In the case, first filed last year before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Pioneer sought a declaration that its product did not violate a patent related to Stryker’s 90D pedicle screw and that the patent was invalid anyway.
