US Hits BP With Civil Suit Over Prudhoe Bay Oil Spill

Law360, New York (April 1, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. government has sued BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. seeking civil penalties in connection with the Prudhoe Bay oil spill, after the company pled guilty to a misdemeanor environmental crime for the spill in 2007 and was ordered to pay $20 million in criminal fines.
