GDF Disputes E.U. Antitrust Concerns

Law360, New York (September 1, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Power-player Gaz de France sent a letter on Friday disputing “point by point” each concern the European Union antitrust regulator raised over its proposed merger with fellow French energy company Suez.

The European Union Commission sent a letter on August 18 to both Gaz de France and Suez, claiming the merger raised competition concerns in the French and Belgian energy markets.

Belgium Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt warned in March the merger would give one company a 90% stake in Belgium’s electricity market.
