CPSC Head Denies Bid For ATV Lead Exemption

Law360, New York (April 3, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The head of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has shot down a request by manufacturers to exempt all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles from the safety watchdog's new lead standards, but has instructed her compliance staff to hold off on enforcing the rules on such products for one year.

CPSC's acting chairman, Nancy Nord, said Thursday that with “extreme reluctance,” she would vote to deny a petition by companies and associations representing the ATV and motorized bike industries to exclude certain metal parts on motorized recreational vehicles...
