Insurer Cites Pollution In Toxic Oil Vessel Class Action

Law360, New York (April 6, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- XL Specialty Insurance Co. has sued Crown Oilfield Services Inc., saying the oil company — and not the insurer — should be held liable after more than 600 seamen allegedly suffered injuries from exposure to radioactive and toxic chemicals while decommissioning an offshore oil platform.

In a complaint filed Monday in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, XL Specialty sought declaratory judgment that exclusions in the insurance policy blocked Crown from being covered by XL Specialty.
