Canada Parliament Mulls Government's Patent Law Amendments

Law360, New York (February 13, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Canada’s federal government has reintroduced to Parliament proposed changes to drug and patent laws that will make it easier for developing countries to obtain cheaper generic drugs.

The proposals were part of key pieces of legislation that died after the Liberal government prorogued Parliament in November.

The reinstated legislation will be referred directly to the parliamentary committee on Industry, Science and Technology. It passed second reading in the House of Commons in the last session of Parliament.
