Jury Awards Uniloc $388M In Patent Suit V. Microsoft

Law360, New York (April 9, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In one of the largest verdicts in patent history, a federal jury has ordered Microsoft Corp. to pay $388 million to Uniloc USA Inc. for willful infringement of several software security patents.

The verdict, passed down Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island, ends six years of litigation between Singapore-based Uniloc and Microsoft over the software giant’s anti-piracy software system, which Uniloc claimed infringed one of its patents.
